Internal linking: connect SEO guides to the services people need

Internal links help visitors move from a question to a useful next step. They also expose relationships between pages. A strong architecture gives an important service several relevant routes from navigation, related guides and case studies without turning every sentence into a sales link.

How to approach the work

Map each article to the service it supports. Add a contextual link where that service answers the next question. Connect closely related guides to one another and make hub pages useful summaries. Use descriptive anchor text that accurately describes the destination.

What to check and change

Check that links are ordinary crawlable anchors and resolve to canonical URLs. Find orphan pages by comparing the crawl with the full page inventory. Avoid routing everything through the homepage or repeatedly linking identical exact-match phrases when a natural description would be clearer.

A practical example

Example: a sitemap troubleshooting guide can link to an indexing audit. A migration checklist can link to redirect mapping and then to migration support. These paths follow the problem the reader is solving; a link to an unrelated country page would interrupt it.

What to measure and ask your agency

Measure broken links, orphan URLs, depth from key hubs and downstream enquiries. Your SEO agency should explain why a link helps the reader, not promise to divide “domain authority” equally between pages.
